Moments of Gamer Daddy Cheer

This month my oldest daughter turns ten. She has always been a good girl, if not a little pent up and intense with occasional fits of attitude that rival some teenagers I know. But, all in all, she is a good girl. She is also a budding gamer.

Time has prevented me from fostering the gamer in her as much as I would like, but if she really wants it, she'll make it happen. I did when I was eight and I imagine she'll find her gaming muse with or without me. This year's birthday list was quite amusing an eye-opening to me. But as a gamer dad it had a couple treats. I'm sure you'll spot them -

Skateboard
Skateboard pads
Sid Myers pirates
karaoke machine
Twilight series, starting with New Moon
laptop
CritterTrail additions for mice
Roman Calvary minis 28mm
WWII german minis 28 mm
2 old records

I love my girl, and this list really does show her as a rounded individual.

Thanks for letting me share,

-Eli

  1. I had a blast wargaming with my son when he was younger. He's since moved on to girls, and "other" things. But I hope to lure him back to the game table in a few years. Great memories!
    Nice post!

  2. Thank you,

I try not to push too hard and let her do her own thing.

  3. That's really cool Eli!

I've played Swords & Wizardry with my son Lars a few times. He's almost four, but he really liked it. It's fun for dads to share their interests with their kids.

  4. My little man loves sitting down at the table painting tanks with me.

It's probably the best bit of the hobby for me.

  5. Both my boys went along with me to Historicon this year. At 13 and 10 years old, playing with Daddy is still fun. I'm enjoying it so far. They are even getting into painting a bit, with help from the paint n' take folks at the con.

Eli, you're doing a good job with them so far, it seems. Keep it up!

  6. She doesn't play a lot, mainly because she finds other stuff to do. But there are times when we do play.

A lot of it is bad timing too - asking me too close to bed time or when I've got a ton of stuff to do.

I am thinking of setting up a biweekly game night with her.
