15mm.co.uk Releases Fleet Scale Mecha

Hello everyone,

Today's post is not just an advertisement for a new release but another beaming point of pride for me as a sculptor.

You may recall a bit ago i set myself to the challenge of sculpting mecha suitable for use in games along side "fleet scale" spaceships. I use the term "fleet scale" as an umbrella for the many different actual scales used for the various spaceship lines out there and up until I sculpted these there really hadn't been many attempts at making old school mecha for these scales. What is an aspiring sculptor to do but to give it a whirl.

fs05_ws.jpgfs03_ws.jpgfs04_ws.jpg

15mm.co.uk accepted these sculpts under the auspices of their SHM miniatures line but the minis are so different and so in a category all their own that they have given them their own little home on their site, HERE!

So go check them out or, as they like to say in the anime shows, "Ikimasu!!"

The Good Bad News About the Centoid Kickstarter

Photo-full

In an odd but cool turn of events, the Centoid Kickstarter that I posted about just yesterday has been cancelled. Before arms fly in the air accompanied by guffaws of disgust, the reason for this is that the Centoids attracted the attention of a third party who has purchased them to put them into production. While this third party has yet to be named, this means that the appeal of this project was so appealing that the need for a Kickstarter campaign was rendered completely  unnecessary.

Adam, the sculptor and creator of the campaign, has promised an update on who this third party ASAP and as such I shall relay that information to you all then.

As I said, the news is bad for the Kickstarter campaign, but good for the range of Centoids.

Take care and have fun,

-Eli

Alien Centoid Kickstarter From Adam Gayford (Ended)

Photo-full

Back in the the early days of my wargaming life there was an awesome race of 28mm aliens that thundered across many gaming tables. Hard to find in the USA, I never saw more than a hand full of them myself and those I did were often conversions from the one or two poses that seem to trickle in to local shops. Well sculptor Adam Gayford has resurrected these majestic beasts in his own style and with a bit of an update.

On 11/8/2012 Adam launched a Kickstarter campaign for a massive onslaught of 28mm saurian centaurs he has dubbed Centoids. These figures will be cast in a remarkable plastic resin with many options and interchangeable torsos and lower bodies. Weapon variations are part of the plan as well as some big hitter like something called a "Juggernaught"  and there are even whispers of a tank and APC.

If this sounds like your sort of monster, then bounce over and throw in. Show Adam's vision some love and get yourself some new bad boys (or good guys) for your battlefield!

Preview Minis Arrived

Another really quick update.

I received my preview casts the day after I posted Gavin's pics (gotta love that mail). I won't post additional pics because Gavin's speak better than any I could take of raw lead. Let me just leave it at, "I'm very happy and they are nice casts."

I have been asked to try to demonstrate the uses for the fleet scale mecha and so far have the following ideas in mind -

  • Fleet scale fighter stand-ins (their intended purpose)
  • 6mm infantry
  • 2-3mm ground mecha
The first is easy enough as I have spaceships to show them off along side, however, I really do not have any suitable 6mm or 2-3mm minis save for those based up for Land Ironclads which, honestly, are very much Victorian style organizations.

I am open to suggestions for possible other angles to go. I know Mik from Mik's minis wants to use them as some sort of micro-bot swarm. I can see them as pretty cool minions for a Toy Man type villain in a 28mm superheroes miniatures game.

These should be available through 15mm.co.uk soonish I hope, but we'll have to wait for the official announcement to know for sure.

Take care and thanks for reading!

Over on my blog for Loud Ninja Games, I have posted regarding the possibility of a Kickstarter project to help push the company and its first release off the ground. Check out the post and give me any sort of input or feedback you feel it deserves.

Thanks for your consideration,

More Figs Off To Scotland

Hey everyone,

So, I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that i sent off a mess of new stuff to Gavin at 15mm.co.uk for consideration for his SHM miniatures line. The bad news is that I forgot to snap pictures before packing them up, so all I can do is tell you what was included.

This batch was a bit different from previous batches as it was not 100% original sculpts. Though there were some new alien civilians including a street preacher, musician, and a bouncer/thug there were also several conversions off of previously released SHM minis of mine. These conversions take the form of four variants on the original Vergan sculpt - some of them armed. There is also a special project given to me by Gavin to made some variants on some of his Retained.

The final inclusions are the nine (9) fleet scale mecha I previewed earlier. These include five standard types and three that are "special". The last of these is a rather big mecha that looks much like some of the alien suits in the various anime from the 80s.

Sorry for not getting pics, but when you see them released in the upcoming months you may recognize some of them.

I'm in a Blister Pack Now!

Gavin over at 15mm.co.uk called to my attention an announcement that the SHM miniatures range is going to be put into packs. This is a bit of a big deal because it means the figures, many of which are sculpted by me, are going to be available for trade and retail offerings. In short it adds just a little more legitimacy to the work I've done.

Check them out here! http://www.15mm.co.uk/SHMP_Blister_Packs.htm

Thanks!

300!!!

No, this is not Sparta, but it is still awesome.

Somehow, amazingly and with out a doubt through some sort of black magic and underhanded dealings, I have accumulated my 300th follower.

I remember being amazed when I reached 50, then 100, then 200, but 300 is really far more than I could have ever hoped for. So, what does this all mean? Well it means that I must be doing something right and that I have all the more reason to keep doing something right.

Thank you all, followers and those undeclared visitors who have chosen to make my corner of the interwebs a regular part of your hobby voyeurism.

Sincerely,

-Eli

What's Going on in Alcovia

Because there is still interest in my imagi-nation of Alcovia, I have added a special blog roll in the side bar titled "What's Going on in Alcovia". This will link you directly to the most recent posts from the various special project blogs that cover the various time periods of Alcovia's history.

So, if you love Alcovia, or you're just now hearing about it, you'll be able to find your way there easily enough.

I really wish there was a way to integrate the blog feeds from those side blogs into ISLP's main posts feed, but I have not been able to find a way, if it does exist.

When Is A Ninja Loud?

When he is me!

As of now Loud Ninja Games is officially a go.

What is LNG?

LNG is my new boutique-scale gaming company focused on, but not limited to bringing new and interesting miniatures to the gaming scene. I don't have any delusions about being the biggest kid on the block or even the most productive, but I'm sure as heck going to do my best to contribute to the gaming culture at large.

Please visit the new Loud Ninja Game blog I have started for all the latest news and eventually retail links to order the products I'll be releasing in the upcoming months. I've already got the first set of miniatures being sculpted and hope to release them by early Summer. until then, I'll be sharing design elements and updates on the background fluff that I used to fuel the first release, the Chuhuac, sculpted by the talented Pedro Navarro.

New Year

2011 was not a very productive year in the hobby realm for me but not for bad reasons. the 2010/2011 stretch was marked by my move into the realm of sculpting and miniatures design and I think that took up a lot of my creative energies. Though I still managed to get a few bits done here and there and things have started to get back into the groove at the end of 2011, I really haven't found myself doing much of anything on the player/hobbyist side of things. I hope to rectify that in the new year.

Sculpting will certainly still take up a good chunk of my time and energies once again. I do not plan on giving it up any time soon and, in fact, may even have some real regular work on that front. I'm still growing and improving my craft and, more importantly, enjoying it. Then there is the design work I'm doing for Mad Robot Miniatures which I am very committed to.

But it is the gaming arena that I want to make some headway. I've got a lot of projects that are either in various states of completion (or lack there of) and I'd like to bring them to playable levels. I think that shall be the theme of this year. Completion.

15mm Scifi
I've got the starts of or the majority of the figures I need for several small units in this area. A few packs toward each will give me several squads to a platoon of any one force. What I am lacking are vehicles, so I think a few vehicles purchases are in order for the new year. Terrain is coming along for this genre already.

20mm Modern
I almost gave up on this one, if not for a few friends who convinced me that I was going in the right direction with this. I have plenty of armor and some APCs. What I need are more infantry, terrain and some soft skin vehicle options for scenario variety. I'll have even MORE armor if I can ever buckled down and assemble some of the plastic kits that I have.

28mm Wild West
More of a side project than anything, I need terrain for this. I'll likely break down and just invest in some card buildings and I have woods. Need cliffs and some rocky terrain to make it all come together.

15mm 18th Century Alcovia
This is a project I started right at the end of 2011 and promises to be fun. I'll be recreating the war of unification fought by the first king of Alcovia to unit the disparate people of the Alcovian Steppes into a nation state.

28mm Dark Ages
Chuggging away n Dark Ages scenery to use with my Vikings.

I Am a Mad Robot

Mad Robot Miniatures

Hello all,

So, things trudge along. The kids are going back to school and I've managed to get myself a nice new little gig on the side. After offering some advise and general assistance in product development and the like to Steve, owner of Mad Robot Miniatures, I have been given a part-time gig as an official part of his team.

What does this mean?

Well what it means is that I'm going to be helping Steve develop new lines as well as fine tuning some of the models themselves. He's still the boss but this is a great opportunity for me to try to have some influence on the 15mm science fiction and miniatures world as a whole.

Why So Quiet Around Here?

You may have noticed that things have slowed down around ISLP. I am sorry for this, but there's a good reason for most of it.

First of all, I've been trying to put a little less time into my hobbies and more time with the family. This is something I must admit being a bit remiss on in the past.

In addition to this, I have been joined the crew of Dropship Horizon and have been doing a fair bit of work with the behind the scenes stuff there. I haven't been posting much to DH, but I am also the keeper of their mailbox.

I've also been putting a lot of time into my sculpting and designing for sculpting. As well as my own sculpting projects, I have been working with various folks in a behind the scenes capacity. Nothing major, but enough to occupy some of my time.

This is all on top of the the grass roots miniatures gaming "activism" I've been up to on The Miniatures Page. Believe it or not, years worth of making noise on various topics on the forums there seems to finally be rendering some results. The squeaky wheel really does get the kick!

I haven't abandoned the blog by any means, but I've just been busy elsewhere. I've got stuff I am working on and the occasionally topic worth posting does come up, but the time to sit down and create interesting blog posts is what I really seem to lack these days.

Rest assured that I will post something here when I can put together something that I feel is interesting enough to post.

Perhaps you could take a moment and chime in to let me know what all you have enjoyed about ISLP over the years. It may just give me an idea!

Thanks,

-Eli

Awesomeness from Khurasan Miniatures

Khurasan Miniatures, despite a summer slowdown, has still managed to put out some kickass releases. Their most recent offering is a set of scifi troopers bearing a striking resemblance to everyone's favorite bug-hunting jarheads.

Khurasan's 15mm Federal Exterminators come nine to a pack including a sergeant, two SAWs, and a flamer. He's already sold out of the initial stock and it's only been a week or so since they were released. More are on their way and I got mine ordered, so expect a review of the raw led soon.

Take care,

-Eli

Miniatures Ready For Sale!

So, the project has finally come full circle. The Uhul, the first figures I ever sculpted, were picked up by 15mm.co.uk and are now available for purchase. I love the paint job they gave them. They really captured the look of owls.

Also coming soon from 15mm.co.uk are four alien civilians that I sculpted. These four figures represent various non-combatants to add to your starport or alien colony. Though they have been deigned with specific themes in mind, they are generic enough to represent really any civilian role.

This has been fun and I look forward to getting more out there.

Nominated Thrice

Trying not to take this too seriously, but I feel obligated to at least to at least show my appreciation. Meatball over at My Dice Hate Me!  nominated me in his list of blogs for the Sylish Blogger. Meatball runs a tight blog with lots of nice eye candy. Warhammer in both 40K and Fantasy flavors as well as Privateer Press games make appearances there.

Thanks Meatball!

Primaeval Designs Releases 15mm Dinosaurs and Other Prehistorics

A quick news bit off the Primaeval Designs Facebook page...
Good news for the 15mm collectors. Lambeosaurus ($14.00) and Protoceratops ($6.00 for 8) are currently available on the Acheson site. By the end of this week the Neanderthals, Woolly Mammoth, Steppe Mammoth, Woolly Rhino and T-Rex should also be available. We will update you the moment we get the codes and prices.
You all know I'm a bit fan of the fine work that the partnership between Craig and Richard is producing. Rich's sculpting of these enigmatic beasts is top notch and Craig's production of the designs is wonderful. for a look at images of models available, visit the Acheson Creation website or the galleries at the Primaeval Designs Facebook page.

You Like Me...

So, it just so happens that I See Lead People has received not one, but two Stylish Blogger Nominations. I am sure there are blogs out there that will collect more, but for me this is most gratifying. I've always treated this blog as a place to share ideas and to interact with gamers and never expected it to become something popular by any means.

The Stylish Blogger Award given from one blogger to another one might say, is like a pat on the back for a good job. It's definitely a viral, zombie-like spread of good will so it's too good to pass up. I was awarded mine yesterday and have been thinking a little on who to nominate myself. There are four rules:
  • Thank and link back to the person giving you the award
  • Share seven things about yourself
  • Select 10-15 blogs who you think deserve this award
  • Contact these bloggers and let them know about the award

So, first of, let me thank the two bloggers that nominated me here. Gyro from Mik's Minis and Baron VonJ from The Baron's Blog. Both these guys run stellar blogs, so for them to recognize me is a big deal as far as I'm concerned.

The Baron runs a sweet blog filled with 18th century imagi-nation goodness as well as another cool blog called Beyond the Wall which chronicles his old school fantasy RPG campaign. Both blogs feature great art by the blogger himself with The Baron's Blog featuring miniatures as well.

Gyro's got himself a good ol' fashioned gamer's blog with Mik's Minis. Like I See Lead People, he may have started out with miniatures on the blog (they make for nifty pics) but he also covers books, RPGs, board games and all manner of geekitude. Gyro is also one of the leads on a cool real play podcast called Minions of the Monster Master where he and his regular gaming buddies allow us to peak into their regular gaming sessions.

So....seven things...ugh..
  1. I so hate talking about myself, but here goes.
  2. I hate time travel.
  3. I love Doctor WHO.
  4. I am addicted to soda for the fizz.
  5. Napping is a hobby for me.
  6. I talk too much
  7. I am known for sound effects and funny voices.
Really, how to pick just a few blogs? I suppose I should go with those that I find myself checking out most frequently. These blogs are by no means the only blogs of quality out there, but they are the ones that i find myself returning to over and over.

Dropship Horizon - Run by my buddy Mark, this is one the the go-to blogs for anything and everything 15mm scifi and beyond. DH has a good spread of subject matter but it does focus mostly on 15mm science fiction miniatures from a variety of sources and subgenres.

Green Skeleton Gaming Guild - Another buddy's blog, this is a real gamer's blog with a combination of miniatures, RPGs and just plain geeky fun. Bill has a habit of digging up some of the coolest classic art from comics and science ifction literature.

Grognardia - Old School RPGs are given very serious and in-depth attention at this blog. Game theory, nostalgia, homebrew, product discussion, it's all here.

Iron Mitten - Amazingly painted miniatures, stylish cartooning and a wonderful senseo f attention to detail and style all culminate to make Iron Mitten a very top notch historical miniatures gaming blog. Not only can the guy paint, but he pulls from all manner of sources both historical and literary to come up with some striking miniatures.

Yours In a White Wine Sauce - A central blog for the VSF genre and the hobbies that go with it. A great news site for new products, pieces of media or just that cheeky bit of pluck, this is a great blog for steampunks everywhere.

Lonely Gamers - Another excellent site focused on historical miniatures. Lonely gamers brings to you brilliant images of masterfully painted miniatures.

Four-Color Figures - Scott brings you something new and painted nearly every couple of days on this blog. In addition to lovely miniatures, he also presents gaming ideas as well as pop culture tidbits such as old comic images. He's even started to release his own small line of miniatures.

Carmen's Fun Painty Time - A true artist's site. Carmen is an amazing painter, sculptor, and modeler. Whether it is hand crafting an Old West town or bringing his own vision of the Ghostbusters to life, his artistic presentation of the miniatures hobby shines.

Victoria's Boys in Red - Another blog brought to you by a buddy of mine, VBIR is a great blog that shows off one man's brilliant vision of his VSF universe. Mr. Womack presents to you bits and pieces collected from all corners of the miniatures market recruited into his own world. But it's not just about miniatures at VBIR. There are great bits of background material detailing the troops, creatures, equipment and background of Mr. Womack's universe.

Atom Kid & Maximum Rock and Role Play - Chad gets two here because he's got a couple of good ones. Atom Kid is his generic pop culture blog and he posts some awesome stuff there. Maximum Rock and Role Play is his gaming blog and focuses on RPGs and miniatures of all sorts.

Damf's Modelling Page - Tony's an all around great painter, modeller and builder. Here you will find everything from his own vision of Flash Gordon's universe to brilliantly made terrain and painted figs for the Flintloque fantasy Napoleonics wargame.

Doc Merkury's Lab - The Doc presents within the pages of his blog excellent images of miniatures wargaming on brilliantly built terrain and dedicated boards. Here you will also find previews of upcoming products as well as action reports of Iron Ivan games.

Ferrous Lands - A blog by a man with a love for the miniatures hobbies as well as gnomes. Andrew is an author and a wonderful artist.
