Happy 2013 Everyone

Well, the Mayans didn't get us, so here we are.

2013 is going to be a strange sort of year for me. It should see the full start of my little miniatures company Loud Ninja Games as well as the release of their first project the Chuhuac also commonly known as "Space Raptors". It will also see the increased commitment and re-focus on family and home that I have, admittedly, been letting slip for a while.

But 2013 shall not be all about family the business of gaming (and I hate to even call LNG that). There shall be gaming, by god!

Just before the final moments of 2013 I managed to get a hold of a copy of the new Pulp Alley rules as the start to my second foray into the realm of 28mm Pulp Adventure miniatures gaming. I am very impressed with what I have found within this very short but oh so sweet rule book. I'll go into it more another time but leave it be said that these rules have me very jazzed and even in the mood to paint. That's a friggin miracle by my standards. What's more, the rules may even get my wife back at the miniatures table with me. One more miracle and these rules will be up for sainthood.

I also picked up the new incarnation of Gruntz and there would appear to be a future for some local 15mm science fiction gaming, even if I might end up driving that one myself. I have the minis, just needed a set of rules that I thought might inspire my particular group of players to want to use them. I know they are into minis gaming, we've just been in a board game rut for a while with the occasional WarmaHordes mingled in - something I just couldn't catch the bug for.

Both these rules sets are appealing for the level of do-it-yourself-ism they inspire. Both allow you to create the stats for your playing pieces (within guidelines of course) making for a very personalized approach to your gaming, something I felt was missing from Privateer Press's miniatures games and something I very much like in a miniatures game and always have.

Anyhow, back to 2013.

This year I hope to be a more productive painter, and a more artful terrain builder. I'd like to really try to tackle some of the trickier stuff I've been shying away from. I need to remind myself to just do stuff and worry less on the final results. Results will come on their own but only if I bother.

So, here's to 2013!

  5. It all comes down to scenarios, that's 2/3 of the battle. Come up with a Gruntz scenario, and just run it. The same would hold true for 28mm pulp stuff too. With scenarios 'in the bank' it's just a matter of plug and play, takes the daunting task of too many choices away. Looking forward to seeing it all happen!

  7. Yep, Happy New Year to you and yours, Eli. Good luck with this year's projects. You are right about worrying over the final result of your modelling. I'm just the same- always beating myself up because other people's stuff seems so much better. I should really focus on the point that it's a hobby to be enjoyed! With that in mind, I'm off to paint!
