Just Build It

Many times I find myself hesitating on building a project because I am not sure that I can do it. I even go so far as buying the materials only to watch them sit there and collect dust. Many of these projects eventually get done, but might have been completed earlier if not for my self-doubt.

I have tried to develop a philosophy of "Just build it" when it comes to these things and, though there are still those projects that daunt me, it has proved useful in increasing my productivity on building projects. I hope to be able to translate this into motivating me to paint as well.

I have said it before, but I have to remember that, "It's better to have something on the table than nothing."

Really it comes down to letting go, allowing oneself to make the mistakes that educate. Those mistakes can either be fixed, covered up, and/or overcome later. It is still better to have a less than perfect build on the table rather than no build at all.

Let's see if I can keep it up...

  1. Amen Brother! I suffer from the same misgivings with some of the projects I want to try, but you're right- Just build it! Can't learn if you don't try.

  3. Thanks for the pep talk. I'm going to set aside some time for Medieval fences tonight - been putting those off.

  4. I'm in the same boat, my friend. It's a good philosophy to live by.
