Bits Built Shuttle

A while back, I received a collection of leftovers, off-casts, and spares from Scotty at Combat Wombat with a request to, "See what I could do with them".

The collection of bits was pretty extensive and I managed to get a couple of hover scouts, the previous posted TARDS units and the shuttle above. I am not sure if the parts to make the shuttle were included on purpose, but I know that a similar craft had been cobbled together by Jason at Micropanzer and displayed on TMP at one point. Intended or not, I had to try to recreate the vehicle.

The engine pods that I used, Are from the ZHI-111 Chinese Lander model and and the main body is a a Grizzly Grav APC. I think the original Micropanzer vehicle used different engines, but I like the look of this combination. It has horsepower to it with those big intakes.

I wasn't too concerned with the parts being a bit nicked up and having some dings in them. First of all these were odd parts and not purchased kits. Secondly, I had put this thing together as a civilian, industrial shuttle. I see it flying survey crews around, picking up medical EVAC from work sites, or carrying management to inspections. It definitely has the look of a utility shuttle.

I am not sure how I'll end up painting it. I try to paint my stuff with a bit of a generic bent to it so it can be used across a wide variety of games. I know this makes my stuff a bit less specific, but I've got to make the gaming budget and space count.

Mother Load Find!

Holy crap!

I haven't seen this stuff in over ten years.

I was on a quest for bits to use in my recent spat of terrain building and noticed a bin hiding in a corner of my garage shelves. On the outside it looked like just another bin full of bits and this and that. then, I noticed a miniature down in the depth of the collected containers, leftover sprue, plastic packaging. It was a wood elf archer.

Why would a wood elf archer be doing in the bottom of a terrain bits box?

Unearthing the bin from the shelf, I started to dig and found more and more interesting things not seen since my bachelor days with the gaming roommates. Miniature after miniatures was sifted from the junk, some of them in their original packaging. I had to dig more.

In all, the following things were excavated. No final tally yet, but it looks like -

8 x 28mm Harlequin Wood Elf Archers
30 x 28mm Old Glory Imperial Roman Legionaries
16 x 28mm Old Glory Late Roman Cavalry in scale male.
1 x Narn Dreadnought
1 x pack of GZG NSL fighters
1 x pack of GZG NAC heavy fighters
1 x old blue card Citadel fantasy early slot based fighters (2)
4 x partial (maybe complete) old resin and metal Grenadier Future Warriors vehicle kits.
1 x near complete plastic Warhammer Fantasy orc chariot.

Insane that I had all this laying in a bin. I must have swept a shelf when I moved out of the old house with the room mates and just forgotten about them. After that they likely got shifted from box to box and eventually ended up in this bin.

A good day. Now, to go clean up my garage.

Khurasan Previews Russian Inspired Future Tanks

Finally somebody has listened!

I count myself among many who have looked at the current and past crops of 15mm science fiction miniatures vehicles and asked why not a single one of them has any of the styling of the Russian designs that seem to have firmly imprinted themselves in modern Eastern European military designs. Well today, Khurasan Miniatures previewed just such a design on TMP.

Calling it the Red Banner (Krasny Znameni), Khurasan's design is a four tiered series of upgrades from a basic design up through the Banner-U (seen below), Red Eagle and Red Lightning designs. Designed by the excellent and multi-talented John Bear Ross The basic Red Banner tanks will be released ahead of the rest of the line it is designed to accompany with later kits being released to upgrade the basic design to the later variants. This is being done as Jon from Khurasan rightly believes there is a place for the tank in other scifi armies, much line Russian armor is seen in armies across out planet today.

I love this release, probably more so than just about any past release of Jon's because it really does fill a niche that I have been desperately wanting to see filled. I had already consigned myself to using converted modern armor for my future Russian-styled vehicles. I had always envisioned cheap Russian tanks as "Kolony Tanks" marketed to up and coming independent colony worlds for their defense, much like T-55s and T-72s are marketed to second and third world nations on present day Earth.

This is definitely a release to keep an I out for.
