It's a little less round, but should still look great on the table.Eli Arndthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10445801567500822187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441824499938029576.post-64995156835969476962009-02-25T11:56:00.000-08:002009-02-25T11:56:00.000-08:00Just to provide further inspiration for you. ;)htt...Just to provide further inspiration for you. ;)

http://picasaweb.google.com/saragovero1/TheLGlacierNPToYellowstoneNPToBadlandsNPSaraGovero#5247432656844223138Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441824499938029576.post-72942961973305536852009-02-24T19:10:00.000-08:002009-02-24T19:10:00.000-08:00Ok I'm a geologist so forgive the nerd mode here. ...Ok I'm a geologist so forgive the nerd mode here.

Travertine is fragile because it is deposited at fairly low temperatures and contains mostly calcium carbonate; limestone.

Geyserite is harder because of the higher deposition temperature, which means it contains not only calcium carbonate but dissolved silca, quartz, as well.

So you could call it an old geyser formation as they do get big and can be preserved in a verticle formation like you have.

Additionally black smokers have a similar depositon pattern. Check out the following website for some information and pictures about them. Ancient black smokers are found on dry land today.

http://www.geo.uni-bremen.de/Ozeankruste/main_e.htmAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441824499938029576.post-4724049621112897602009-02-24T17:33:00.000-08:002009-02-24T17:33:00.000-08:00Hey thanks for the link. I doubt it would make a good habitat.

I had been thinking that some sort of limestone might make a good way to go. The bumpy, chunky shape seems to suggest larger, harder stone strapped in some sort of other matrix or stone.Eli Arndthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10445801567500822187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441824499938029576.post-76504769269519680672009-02-24T14:47:00.000-08:002009-02-24T14:47:00.000-08:00I like it.
